Description of Classes:
General Yummy Yoga Classes:
75 minutes of Yoga Asanas (poses), Breathing Exercises and Meditation. Themes change fortnightly to keep it interesting and fun. A variety of options are offered throughout the class to suit everyone, from beginners to seasoned yogis. It’s important to listen to your body throughout the class and honour your own challenges and strengths, irrespective of the person beside you.
Yin and Yang Class:
There will be a combination of Yin (slow) and Yang(dynamic) poses, depending on the theme/focus for the class. There is usually about half of the class focused on yang, active, moving poses, aimed at strengthening and stretching the muscles. The other half of the class is focused on stretching the fascia, the ligaments and the joints. It is a still, calming practice. The class also includes breathing exercises and meditation.
Gentle Yoga: (suitable for Seniors, those with injuries or anyone looking for a very gentle practice).
This is a gentler version of the Yummy Yoga Class. It still has some challenges for yogis but it is more floor based than the other classes and the pace is a bit slower. This class is one hour long.
Restorative yoga is the most gentle class of all. This class is a quiet form of yoga, aimed at calming the nervous system, reducing stress and allowing the body time to relax and ease into poses. It is a slower paced class than the others, with some poses being held up to 5 minutes. It is suitable for anyone and everyone!
This class focuses on stretching the connective tissue of the body, the joints, ligaments, fascia and even the bones. Yin is a more yielding, slower, deeper practice than other "Yang" (dynamic practices). Poses are held for longer, allowing the body to leg go and surrender into the poses. While Yang classes concentrate more on stretching and strengthening the skeletal muscles, Yin Yoga aims to work on a deeper level. Poses are supported by use of props and this class is suitable for everyone as it is mostly floor based. Please note though that Yin is not a Restorative class, it is still a very deep practice, just with a different aim and pace to Yang classes.
This course is aimed at various kids age groups, who like to stretch and strengthen their bodies, have fun, integrate the whole brain though brain gym, learn how to co-operate and trust each other, learn to support, touch and massage others in a healthy, relaxed environment. The emphasis is on fun and movement. Because the kids learn to work together and depend on each other, this is a class where kids need to sign up for the term.
Our busy, stressed Teens need some time to stretch after all the sitting they do, and some time to re-connect with their breath, thus helping them to feel connected and happy. The Teens Yoga Course places emphasis on stretching, strengthening and relaxing. Teens learn to deal with their stress levels better and yoga in itself helps build their self-confidence and body awareness. There are also partner activities and group poses, encouraging Teens to develop compassion and empathy for one another, as well as good teamwork.
This course is suitable for either 2 (or even 3) family members (or close friends). It could be a parent and child, two adults, 2 siblings or best friends. The class includes a mix of regular yoga poses, partner poses, partner massage, breathing exercises and meditation. The purpose of this class is to help you connect more deeply with yourself and with your partner/friend, and have fun on the mat. Minimum age 10 years old.
One on one yoga is used to tailor a Yoga session just for you. These sessions are usually held on Thursdays and they begin with a discussion about your strengths, challenges and needs, followed by a physical yoga practice.
Following this, you may be ready to join a public class. Or you may like a couple more private lessons where a yoga sequence will be put together, tailored to your specific needs. In the follow up Private Yoga classes, you will practise the set sequence developed for you and your injuries/needs. Most people then join the regular yoga classes after a couple of sessions, feeling confident that they are ready to come along to a public class.
However, some people prefer to continue one on one yoga sessions for reasons of time convenience, and/or other reasons.
